Minnesota's charm is due to its Natural Beauty

By: Laura Durso

It's true that Minnesota is not the place many people would like to call home. It turns extremely cold in the winter due to its location on the northern edge of the continental United States. No wonder, the geographically large state of Minnesota does not even rank in the top twenty states in terms of population.

However, Minnesota is a great attraction for tourists, especially in summer. It is situated along the shores of Lake Superior and enjoys cool summer breezes in the summer months making it a perfect retreat for holidaymakers. They come here to visit the pristine landscape and the natural splendor of Minnesota.

Minnesota is certainly not a place for casinos and theme parks but a place of natural splendor and beauty that many a city dweller would love to escape to. People come here to get away for the maddening crowds and stresses of urban life. The deep forests and placid lakes help people reach out to moments of peace and solitude.

If you love outdoors you will love Minnesota and truly enjoy the experience. You can go hiking, biking, boating, and choose from a host of other outdoor activities all across the great state.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is probably the most popular attraction for visitors to Minnesota looking for an outdoor adventure. The wilderness is home to over 1,000 crystal clear lakes that are great for fishing, swimming, boating, and even water skiing if it is permitted. In order to keep the lakes in pristine condition, many do not allow motorized boats on the lakes.

The lakes of Minnesota attract canoe enthusiasts from across the world. It's quite a challenge and an adventure to navigate the lake bodies in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. There are also many campgrounds, lodges and resorts to cater to those not interested in canoeing but merely wanting to get away from the stressful city life.

Minnesota is home to a wide range of wildlife which is also another big draw for visitors. It is completely possible to see moose, bears, wolves, deer, eagles, and even those crazy loons during your stay in Minnesota. If you do not happen to see what you are looking for in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, there are more isolated and remote regions where such wildlife flourishes.

Minnesota is more of a nature lover's paradise and less of glamour and glitz. The people of this state are friendly and down to earth and deeply connected to nature and its beauty. Perhaps this is one single reason why the natural beauty of the state has been preserved so well. We are lucky to be able to visit states such as Minnesota and cherish in our minds the bounty of nature bestowed upon us.
